OKAHANDJA, 03 Aug. 3 — Young people in Okahandja have decided to start a club that will feed and clothe the homeless.
The Winter Donation Drive initiative was started on 26 June 2022 in the town.
The group goes to the town’s dumpsite every Sunday where they feed the people and distribute clothes and blankets that they collect from community members.
The group that only started as a young ladies club has transformed into a community project involving all genders.
“It’s so cold out there and there are so many people in need not necessarily of monetary help but also blankets, food clothes etc.” Peggy Sloa the spokesperson of the group said.
The group approached the local municipality and other business owners and stakeholders for donations to sustain this project and are still waiting on responses.
This project is currently dependent on donations from community members and contributions from the club members to provide the food they distributed with donated items to the needy people at the dump site.
“Let us help someone sleep with a full tummy this Sunday and every Sunday of winter” Sloa pleaded.
The aim of the group is to help the less fortunate feel loved and be part of the community.
