Kashuupulwa condemns critics of last Swapo congress

EKOLANAAMBO, 02 SEP  – Oshana Governor Clemens Kashuupulwa has condemned the critics of the outcome of the Swapo national congress held in Windhoek last November.
Speaking at a belated Heroes’ Day commemoration at Ekolanaambo village in the Oshana Region’s Ondangwa Rural Constituency on Saturday, Kashuupulwa said the elections of the Swapo leaders during the congress was genuinely free and fair.
Kashuupulwa told his audience that President Hage Geingob won the elections to head the party, through a free and fairly conducted ballot.
He noted that former Defence Minister Nahas Angula, former Youth Minister Jerry Ekandjo and former Home Affairs and Immigration Minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, who all contested the elections, accepted the outcome and went to the extent of hugging Geingob to congratulate him for his victory.
“Those (Angula, Ekandjo and Iivula-Ithana) are our heroes and they have accepted the results of the congress. Who are you to criticise the results of the congress and declare it unfair,” stated Kashuupulwa, who is also a member of the Swapo central committee.
He lashed out at certain Swapo members, who are reportedly going around the region influencing other party members to support their quest to have the congress results investigated for alleged irregularities.
Kashuupulwa said he is disappointed that one of the critics is a member of the Swapo executive committee in the region, while also arguing that the critics are individuals whose intentions are to confuse and divide the party membership.
He called on the party leaders at all structures to be vigilant of “detractors” and protect innocent members against their clandestine actions.
Approached for comment, the Swapo coordinator in the region, Samuel Nelongo said his office is aware of party members lobbying others in the region to support them in their intention to have the congress results audited.
Nelongo said his regional executive could not discuss the issue of members questioning the congress results, as petitions in that regard are procedurally dealt with by the national leadership.
“It is for the national leadership to give an answer to the grievances concerning the congress outcome and we trust leaders at national level are competent to address the issue,” Nelongo noted.
