REHOBOTH, 29 JUN – Swallows Football Academy (FA) coach, Jakobus Steyn said on Thursday that the team has exceeded expectations and performed well in the Khomas Second Divison during the 2018 football season.
The rookies from Dolam also known as ‘The Birds’ are currently sitting in second position on the log with 54 points after 25 matches played.
Steyn said the aim of the team was to finish at least fourth or fifth in the league standings, but has done well so far in their first season.
Swallows have so far only lost once over the season against Kingston United and has the most draws in the league with nine in total.
“If we could have won the games we drew, things might have been different, but luck was not on our side,” Steyn noted.
He said for next season, they aim to go full out and challenge for the league.
“Our feeder system is well-organised and we will rope in a few boys from our under-17 (U-17) setup to be part of the league. I believe we have the bulk of our players for next season,” he remarked.
Swallows FA was established in 2008 by Hermanus Lawal ||Naobeb and Lazarus Xoagub to unearth footballing talent at grassroots level and brought in Steyn to coach the U-19 team.
The academy caters for players in the U-7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 age groups, with the U-19 team playing in the Khomas Second Division.
||Naobeb is the coach of the U-17, while Ronnie Hoxobeb coaches the other age groups.
Swallows Football Academy has dominated local youth tournaments since its inception, including the Sport Klub Windhoek and Ramblers Youth tournaments.
