Uganda withdraws from Debmarine Pent Series

WINDHOEK, 08 JUN  – Uganda’s national senior netball team ‘She-Cranes’ has pulled out of the 2018 edition of the Debmarine Namibia Pent Series scheduled for Saturday to Wednesday.
The second edition of Netball Namibia (NN)’s senior International Netball Tournament, known as the Debmarine Namibia Pent Series, sees five nations competing against each other for ranking points at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in Olympia, Windhoek.
The five-day championship will be held from 09 to 13 June with four countries – hosts Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana competing amongst each other. Uganda who were supposed to make their first appearance at the competition withdrew on Thursday.
Conny Samaria, NN Public Relations Officer told the media on Friday that Uganda informed NN late Thursday that they were unable to make it to the Pent Series.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances Uganda informed us that they will not be competing at the championship, but we however remain confident that we will host a successful Series with Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe,” he said.
Namibia’s senior national netball team, which made its return to the International Netball Federation (INF) world rankings after competing at the 2017 Africa Senior National Netball Championship in Kampala, Uganda, is now ranked 36th out of the 41 countries ranked by the federation.
Zambia is ranked 16th, Zimbabwe 15th and Botswana 21st.
The tournament is sanctioned by the International Netball Federation and will count as a ranking event for participating countries.
