WINDHOEK, 17 MAY – Coaches of the two teams competing in the final of the second edition of the Debmarine Namibia Cup promised exciting football when they meet on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
African Stars who already won the Football Association Cup (FAC) four times in the past, will face University of Namibia Football Club (UNAM FC) who are hoping to clinch their first-ever title.
Stars won the trophy in 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2014.
Speaking to Nampa on Wednesday, UNAM FC coach Ronny Kanalelo said his team has prepared well for the final and know that they need to be on top of their game.
“You cannot rectify the final after the game. The dynamics of this game are not the same as when you are playing in the league. We will go in this game with a good structure and tactical behaviour,” he stressed.
Kanalelo added that his team is not a reactive type of team but know how to adjust to any type of game they face.
“We are not in an environment of pressure. We are in an environment of improving and developing players game by game,” he noted.
African Stars coach Bobby Samaria informed this agency that when they started their journey way back in September, it was about winning the league not the cup competition, but those goals have now changed.
“After cementing the league when we beat Tigers and Tura Magic, we changed our focus to winning the Debmarine Namibia Cup. We want to show the masses the magnitude this cup deserves,” he said.
He stated that despite this being one of the most lucrative cup competitions in the country, the winner at the end of the day should be Namibian football.
“We are quite ready for UNAM and we know our supporters always want us to win games, but we will not be pressured by external factors. The only pressure we will have is within and not from outside,” the coach added.
Samaria called on his team’s supporters to learn to understand that other teams are also doing their homework and should understand if the game does not go their way.
