OPUWO, 29 APR – The Opuwo and Outapi local authorities on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the regional capital of Kunene.
The MoU, according to the first resident of Opuwo, Albert Tjiuma, will strengthen the friendship between the two towns, while also steering development.
“The two towns will continue working together in the provision of upgrading the solid waste, water, sanitation management, and empowering youth and women,” said Tjiuma.
Deputy Mayor of Outapi, Matheus Deshitila described the agreement as fruitful and will provide better services and good working relationships, while also creating a platform for sharing information on finance, human resources, tourism and promote infrastructure development.
“One has to acknowledge that we are living in a global village, whereby collaboration is needed in tackling issues of common interest and benefit,” added Deshitila.
He promised that the two towns will support each other in events such as the annual trade fairs, starting from the oncoming Opuwo Trade Fair and the Olufuko cultural festival.
The Opuwo Town Council has signed similar agreements with Swakopmund, Windhoek, Outjo, Khorixas and Kamanjab.
Outapi meanwhile, has standing MoUs with Windhoek and Okakarara.
