WAP through to Momentum final

WINDHOEK, 12 AUG  – Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaatskool (WAP) progressed to the Under-19 (U-19) Super League final of the Momentum Schools Rugby Board Trophy after beating Moria Privaatskool in an exciting semi-final on Saturday night.
With the win WAP booked themselves a date with Windhoek Gymnasium in the final that will be played on Saturday at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
WAP put up a great performance to beat a resilient Moria who competed in the Super League for the first time 40-30, after a 23-13 halftime score.
WAP scored six tries compared to Moria’s four tries on the night. The two teams collected 10 points from the dependable boots of DJ Holthausen for Moria who scored two penalties and converted two of the four tries, while Johan Zaayman of WAP also scored two penalties and converted two of their six tries.
Speaking to the media after the match, WAP head coach Johan Zaayman said credit should be given to the Outjo-based Moria who joined the super league for the first time this season.
“We had a tough match against them, they were well-prepared and took us to the end. I am happy that my boys could still step up another gear on the day to win this match and book us a spot in the final,” he said.
Moria school principal and assistant coach, Loutjie Grobler said he was proud of his boys on their achievements this season.
“We did not really expect to reach this stage of the competition as it’s our first season in the Super League, but I am proud of what we have achieved and we’re going to continue working hard for next year,” Grobler said.
