RIYADH, Sept. 26 — Military chiefs of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye met in Riyadh on Friday to discuss the security situation and ways to strengthen defense cooperation, according to the Saudi Ministry of Defense.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the ministry said military chiefs from the three countries reviewed the security situation and threats facing Saudi Arabia and strongly condemned the attacks targeting the city of Mecca as well as the kingdom’s civilian and economic infrastructure.
The participants discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation among the armed forces of the three countries, including enhancing intelligence cooperation, military coordination and capability integration, with the aim of bolstering deterrence and collective defense.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to collective defense and their determination to defend Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the statement.
Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis have been exchanging attacks in recent days. The Houthis said they had struck multiple targets across Saudi Arabia, including the capital Riyadh, in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on areas under their control.
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement on Aug. 7 in the Saudi city of Mecca, which stipulates that an attack on any signatory will be considered an attack on all.(Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
