BEIJING, Jan. 12– The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm governing international relations, as well as the political foundation of China-Africa relations, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on the remarks by the Taiwan authorities about the one-China principle as stated in the joint press release of the 9th China-African Union (AU) Strategic Dialogue.
She said that the joint press release fully and accurately reflects the consistent, unambiguous position held by the African side regarding the Taiwan question.
She quoted AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf as saying in a recent interview that “we will be on board with China on the issue of one-China principle forever.”
The Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in 2024 adopted the Beijing Declaration, Mao noted.
Participating African countries and the AU Commission reaffirmed their firm support for the one-China principle, stressing that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government of China, and backed China’s efforts to achieve national reunification, Mao added.
“We urge the Taiwan authorities to face up to reality and stop their self-humiliating and shoddy political stunt,” Mao said. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
