TEHRAN, Aug. 11 — Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on Tuesday that meeting the country’s healthcare needs was among the most challenging tasks undertaken by his ministry during the 40-day war with the United States and Israel.
He made the remarks at a ceremony in the capital Tehran to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran’s Foreign Ministry and Health Ministry on cooperation in rebuilding infrastructure damaged during the war, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency.
Araghchi said the Foreign Ministry had worked with the Health Ministry during the war to procure medicines and medical equipment and transport them into the country, describing the effort as a challenging task.
On Feb. 28, Israel and the United States launched joint attacks on Tehran and other Iranian cities, killing the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several military commanders.
Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases and assets in the region. In June, Iran and the United States signed a MoU on ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
The two sides were scheduled to hold negotiations within a 60-day period to reach a final agreement, but recent escalation in the region has left the talks’ fate uncertain. (Namibia Daily News / Xinhua)
