WINDHOEK, April 2 — The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) has said that former Namibia Football Association (NFA) president Frans Mbidi, who was removed by FIFA last year including other executive members of the NFA, still remains the vice president of COSAFA.
Mbidi was elected vice president in December 2016 to serve for a period of five years.
COSAFA is expected to hold its elective congress in 2021.
Mbidi was president of NFA from 2014 when he won the elective congress before he was asked by FIFA to vacate his position, following an infighting within the NFA that resulted in FIFA appointing a Normalization Committee to run day-to-day affairs of the association until a new NFA executive committee is elected into power in May this year.
Despite no longer being in charge at the helm of the NFA, COSAFA’s general secretary, Sue Destombes told Xinhua Tuesday that Mbidi remains in his position.
“Yes, he remains the vice president of COSAFA, until the next COSAFA elections,” Destombes said.
Destombes also said that her office has not met with the NFA/FIFA Normalization Committee as she is looking forward to meet the new committee that is expected to be elected into power next month. – XINHUA
