DOHA, Nov. 7 — China made history at the ISSF World Championships here on Friday, sweeping the women’s skeet individual podium for the first time, while also claiming gold and bronze in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event.
In the women’s skeet final, Jiang Yiting hit 34 targets to secure gold, finishing two ahead of compatriot Che Yufei, who took silver with 32. Jiang Chaoyu completed the all-Chinese podium with 27 hits, marking the first time China had swept all three medals in the event at the World Championships.
Jiang Yiting, who won the event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games earlier this year, added a world title to her achievements and secured a quota place for China at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“I’m so happy. This is my first world championship gold,” Jiang said.
Reflecting on her performance, Jiang acknowledged that the competition had not been entirely smooth.
“I’ve had some ups and downs over the past few days, but I’ve managed to adjust,” she said. “My teammates are also very good shooters, and we encourage each other.”
Earlier in qualification, Jiang Chaoyu had finished second with 122 hits, while Jiang Yiting and Che each recorded 121 to advance to the eight-shooter final.
The Chinese trio also claimed the women’s skeet team title with a combined qualification score of 364 hits, ahead of Britain on 353 and Italy on 352.
Later on Friday, China’s Shen Yiyao and Bu Shuaihang claimed the 10m air pistol mixed team title, scoring 487.1 points to beat Iran’s Haniyeh Rostamiyan and Vahid Golkhandan by 5.8 points.
Bu contributed 246.7 points and Shen added 240.4, while the Iranian pair finished with 481.3 points.
Defending champions Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai of China, who won gold together at the 2025 World Championships in Cairo, settled for bronze with 416.6 points. Hu had won the men’s individual 10m air pistol title on Thursday, while Yao took silver in the women’s event.
In the men’s skeet final, Denmark’s Jesper Hansen edged Egypt’s Azmy Mehelba in a shoot-off after both finished with 34 hits. Hansen prevailed 16-15 to claim gold, while Kuwait’s Abdulaziz Alsaad took bronze with 29 hits. All three medalists secured Olympic quota places for their respective countries.
The championships continue on Saturday with the skeet mixed team event. (Namibia Daily News/Xinhua)
