REHOBOTH, August 16- Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the spirited Vice-president of Swapo and Presidential candidate for the upcoming election, called for unity among Swapo party members during her address to thousands of party supporters in Block E, Rehoboth. The event took place in the Rehoboth East area of the Hardap region.
Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the importance of unity of purpose to restore the party to its former glory. She highlighted the opportunities for youth engagement in agriculture activities for job creation, particularly in the Hardap region and Rehoboth. She also encouraged the youth to position themselves to benefit from the upcoming Hydrogen opportunity.
In her capacity as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations, Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed concern about certain party members using social media to call for an Extraordinary Congress to endorse a new presidential candidate. She urged all members to respect the outcome of the previous year’s Congress, where she was democratically elected as the winner.
“We campaigned during the Congress that the winner among us three would become the presidential candidate, and we must be honest to ourselves,” she emphasized.
Nandi-Ndaitwah underlined the political right of party members to campaign for positions before Congress, but also stressed that it is politically incorrect and unconstitutional to campaign against the chosen candidate after Congress. She called for party members to unite behind Swapo and support her presidential candidacy in the upcoming elections.
During the same event, Sophia Shaningwa, the Secretary General of Swapo party, and the Hardap Swapo regional coordinator echoed the sentiments of unity behind Nandi-Ndaitwah’s candidacy. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s visit to the southern part of Namibia, her first since her victory last year, is scheduled to include another rally on September 2, 2023, in Extension 6,Tseiblaaste,Keetmanshoop of Karas region. – Namibia Daily News
