MARIENTAL, Aug. 25 -– With the national Heroes Day Celebrations that will be held in Mariental, in Hardap region, the town is in full swing of activity.
Every government office is busy with final preparations as the day 26 August 2022 is here.
Regional governor Salomon April has his hands full as he receives dignitaries from all over the country.
One would say the town is indeed blessed with high security as every second car that passes is either from Nampol or Namibian Defence Force patrolling the busy streets of Mariental to prevent criminal activities.
The streets are bustling but safe to move around due to the tight security.
“We are excited to host the 32nd Heroes Day celebrations in our region, not only does it bring people together but it makes us as a nation remember those who died for the freedom of our country,” a street vendor said.
The excitement that the town shows in hosting the commemoration is felt by the way people are talking about it.
“We are honoured to be the hosting region especially after COVID-19 and with this celebration we will also celebrate the Frontline workers who died while saving the nation from the deadly pandemic,” a teacher who declined to be identified said.
A capacity crowd is expected at the celebrations venue where gates will open from 06h00.
