WINDHOEK, 15 JUN – The newly elected leadership of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has pledged to act as evaluators and monitors of the party’s manifesto in making sure that its vision as set out in the document is achieved.
Introducing themselves officially to President Hage Geingob at State House on Wednesday, SPYL Secretary Ephraim Nekongo said as members who are close to the social and economic challenges faced by the Namibian youth, it is important for the SPYL to work as a team with its senior party members to achieve the party’s manifesto.
“As the newly elected SPYL leaders, we would like to solve national issues not through social media, but by engaging each other as the youth, with the guidance of the senior party leaders,” said Nekongo.
Nekongo emphasised that the youth league would like to solve issues by advising ministries on how to go about certain challenges, adding that they will introduce themselves to all ministries to create a platform that will allow them to engage with head government offices in dealing with national issues, especially those affecting the youth.
At the same occasion, Swapo Party Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa said the new SPYL leaders are disciplined in terms of administration and are ready to serve as per the party’s manifesto.
The Head of State, Hage Geingob, also urged SPYL members to challenge their senior party members in a respectful manner and said the party has demonstrated a culture of valuing the ideas of the youth since the years of the founding president.
He added that he is pleased that the new SPYL leaders know how to present themselves and are acting on country issues in a disciplined manner with their seniors.
