Walvis bay, Oct. 18 — His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, the president of Zambia, recently paid a special visit to the NAMCOR National Oil Storage Facility (NOSF) Jetty & Terminal in Walvis Bay during his maiden trip to Namibia.
The Zambian president was hosted by NAMPORT and NAMCOR and given a tour of the North Port Tanker Jetty and National Oil Storage Facility (NOSF), both of which are run by NAMCOR.
The Oil Storage Facility – NOSF will play a crucial role in the Walvis Bay – Zambia corridor by easing trade and imports into Zambia and beyond now that Zambia has a land connection via the dry port housed in the Namibian coastal town.
To guarantee Namibia’s security of fuel supply, the Namibian government built NOSF. It has a tanker jetty, many product pipelines, and a terminal with seven (7) tanks that can hold 75 million litres of liquid.
To increase Namibia’s security of fuel supply from the previous 7–10 days to 30-45 days in scenarios where the nation cannot import petroleum products from the international market, this facility was conceived and built as a strategic storage facility.
The head of state of Zambia’s visit underlines the need to improve bilateral ties between the two nations to boost trade and investment.
During the official presentation of the corridor construction, the Zambian Head of state stated: “These bilateral relationships are critical to the Zambian economy, as we are here to learn from our counterparts. The effective and consistent utilisation of this port will be key to the success of this corridor. Zambia is no longer a landlocked country; it has become a landlinked country. Let us work together.”
The Namibian Companies Act 28 of 2004 established the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR), whose main shareholder is the Government of the Republic of Namibia. NAMCOR has the authority to conduct reconnaissance, exploration, and production activities under the Petroleum (Exploration and Production) Act of 1991.
