ONGHA, 30 APR – Kapombo Primary School (PS) in the Ohangwena Region’s Ongha Education Circuit, is in dire need of building materials to construct additional classrooms in order to create space for grades 8 and 9.
Young entrepreneur, Sam Hamunyela on Friday donated 20 bags of cement, two doors, two locks and close to N$6 000 towards the construction of the classrooms.
Currently, there are 555 learners from pre-primary to Grade 8 at the school.
“This year, we started Grade 8, which has resulted in a further shortage of classroom space,” school principal, Josephina Mutilifa said during the donation handover.
Mutilifa said more classroom space is needed for Grade 9 to be introduced at the school next year, noting that Hamunyela’s donation came at the right time when the school is striving to create classrooms at its own cost.
One of the learners, Elina Kahana said the school community applauds the expansion of the school with the introduction of Grade 8, adding that the school also needs a library, laboratory and enough textbooks.
Speaking at the event, Hamunyela said after learning about the need of classrooms at Kapombo PS, he decided to contribute to the construction by soliciting funds and materials from his company, Ngomashendjo Trading, and friends.
“We are the government and we should always try to meet the government halfway like we are doing here today,” said Hamunyela.
Kapombo PS was established in 1984 and as such, Hamunyela believes its expansion and an introduction of Grade 8 at the school was long overdue.
