Work for your people, not social media: Shifeta

WINDHOEK, 09 AUG – Minister of Environment and Tourism (MET), Pohamba Shifeta on Thursday urged MET staff to work for their people and customers and not for social media.
He said this during the launch of the ministry’s Customer Service Charter in the capital, attended by staff and board members.

Shifeta also said that supervisors need to supervise their people as per their job description.
“Social media is an addiction to many, but that does not mean we should replace social media with our clients,” he said.

As the ministry deals with clients from different countries, Shifeta encouraged the employees to work in accordance with the rules and regulations stipulated in the ministry’s mandate.

Giving examples on cases reported on poor customer service delivery, he said that some staff members, especially those working at entry points, are not doing what is expected of them.

“Some members think that they are not being paid for customer service delivery, but rather doing their job, forgetting that it’s those clients they mistreat that are guaranteeing their salaries,” he explained.
The minister said having the charter in place, the ministry is expected to deliver valuable service not only to clients from abroad, but customers within Namibia and the public in general.

At the same event, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism, Bernadette Jagger urged the staff to be involved in the implementation of the charter.
“We all should be guided by this charter to do what is expected of us as a ministry and live up to our commitments,” she said. – NAMPA
