WASHINGTON, Feb. 7– The U.S. Treasury announced on Monday that
it has imposed sanctions on four individuals for their alleged engagement
in “destabilizing activities” responsible for prolonging the conflict in
the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The designation targeted Muhindo Akili Mundos, a general in the Armed
Forces of the DRC, and three rebel leaders of the militant groups,
according to a Treasury statement released in the day. The Treasury
accused the four men of conducting “horrendous acts including sexual abuse
and forced military recruitment of children into positions requiring them
to commit acts of violence.”As a result of the Treasury’s action, any
property or interests of the designated persons in the United States will
be blocked and transactions by Americans involving these persons are
generally prohibited. – XINHUA
