REHOBOTH, 20 APR – Twenty-one athletes from Hardap will represent the southern region at the 28th edition of the Senior Track and Field National Championships at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
The meeting is hosted by Athletics Namibia and the top eight athletes in each event during the regional club challenges, which took place between January and March this year, are participating in the national championships.
Each region is allowed entry of two athletes who qualify per event if they meet the qualification standards.
The national championships also serve as qualifiers for international events.
Satrick Bampton, convener of Team Hardap on Friday said the athletes will try and qualify for international events.
“It is every athlete’s dream to qualify for international events and they showed during the Hardap Regional Athletics Championships that they can compete with the best,” Bampton noted.
The Hardap athletes are Justicia Bampton (shotput); Eoudia Bassingthwaighte, Elna Burger and Hildred Mouton (discus and javelin); Casey Beukes (long jump); David Bock (200 metre (m) sprint); Withney Daniels (high jump and triple jump); Adolf de Koe (triple jump); Eben Eichab and Damien van der Ross (100m sprint); Jesse Joseph (100m sprint, long jump and triple jump); Joslin Kheibes (100m hurdles, high jump and long jump); Bongani Kheiseb (javelin); Ginaldo Kisting (110m hurdles and triple jump); Grayden Louw (long jump and triple jump); Dennis Orlam (400m hurdles, long jump and triple jump); Charlton Rickerts (shotput); Mariska Topnaar (400m hurdles and triple jump); Eugene van Kradenburg (800m run and triple jump); William van Wyk (javelin and shotput); Loretha Witbeen (800m run and 100m hurdles)
