SWAKOPMUND, Aug. 23 – A blazing fire destroyed Dolphin Pharmacy and an adjacent doctor’s consulting rooms on the corner of Sam Nujoma and Nathaniel Maxullilli Drive in Swakopmund yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.
According to the Swakopmund fire chief, Adri Goosen, the fire brigade was alerted at around 14:30 and immediately rushed to the scene. Although it was too late to save the well-known pharmacy and doctor’ consulting rooms, the fire brigade managed to curb the fire from spreading to other adjacent businesses, notably a Total service station just across the street.
Goosen said that the fire is believed to have started at the consulting rooms, while the cause of the fire is still being investigated. He added that Dr Paul Ludik, the Director of the National Forensic Science Institute of Namibia and other experts’ assistance in this regard will be required.
Goosen classified this as the biggest fire in the central business district that he and his team has had to deal with since he became fire chief, and that he and his team managed to get the fire under control within an hour. Nobody was injured in the inferno. – Marshallino Beukes
