JUBA, Nov. 4 — South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has appointed Barnaba Bak Chol as the new finance minister, replacing Athian Diing Athian, who was dismissed from the post after serving for only two months.
Kiir announced the decision during a televised presidential decree on Monday by the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
No reason was given for Diing’s sacking amid public concern over the country’s deepening economic crisis amid conflict. Kiir also made several other changes in his government, dismissing several senior officials in the security, finance, and petroleum sectors, while reinstating Tut Gatluak Manimeh as the national security advisor.
The president also sacked Chol Ajongo Mawut as minister for presidential affairs, slightly a year after his appointment, and replaced him with Africano Mande Gedima, the former head of the South Sudan Revenue Authority. (Xinhua)
