KEETMANSHOOP, 27 JUN – !Nami#Nûs Constituency Councillor, Jan Scholtz was re-elected as chairperson of the //Kharas Regional Council and of the Management Committee here on Tuesday.
Scholtz, who has been at the helm of the regional council for the past seven years, is joined by Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Councillor, Elias Kharuxab and Oranjemund Constituency Councillor, Lazarus Nangolo on the management team. The two councillors were also re-elected.
The election was done in terms of Article 109 (3) of the Namibian Constitution, as amended, which requires members of the regional council to elect, from among themselves members for the management committees every two years and six months.
In his acceptance speech, Scholtz urged his fellow councillors to try their level best during their term to introduce new development projects to the region, even though some might only be realised in the long term.
“We have to work tirelessly as a solid team, sometimes amidst difficulties and challenges but with determination, we have overcome all odds. All of us must continue to push for further growth,” Scholtz said.
The chairperson also called for unity and persistence among the councillors in efforts to obtain results that will benefit the community.
“By working together, we can do more to realise a common vision with a better and a more prosperous region. This is the partnership we can strive for,” he added.
Other regional councillors that remained in their respective positions are Hilma Nicanor (Keetmanshooop Urban Constituency), Paulus Ephraim (Karasburg West Constituency), Dennis Coetzee (Karasburg East Constituency) and Dawid Boois ( Berseba Constituency).
