WINDHOEK, 24 MAY – Five secondary schools in the Zambezi Region will benefit from the Sanlam Namibia ‘My Culture, My Life Roadshow’ programme in June this year.
This was said during the launch of the programme here on Wednesday by the company’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Hilaria Graig, while handing over a cheque worth N.dollars 300 000 to the team going to the region.
The programme, which will benefit the Mayumi, Sangwali, Caprivi, Simataa and Sanjo secondary schools, is aimed at creating a platform at school level for learners to understand and practice their cultures.
Graig emphasised that Namibians need to appreciate their cultures as they encompass a moral compass.
“Young people don’t understand the importance of cultural practices. It is therefore our duty to teach them about their cultures as a way to keep these alive,” she said.
Promise, a renowned local artist whose real name is Naomi Munyunda, will be one of the four artists accompanying the team. Vuyo, Belle and Markosha are the other three artists who will form part of the campaign.
Munyunda said Namibians need to know the importance of culture to be proud of where they come from.
“It’s okay to follow trends, but let’s keep in mind that our identity is [determined] by where we come from. This platform is an ideal opportunity to do something in my own community,” she said.
Apart from the five schools, the team is also expected to visit traditional authorities in the region.
