DAR ES SALAAM, July 24 — The Southern African Development Community (SADC) on Monday commenced its 27th Ordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with a focus on advancing peace and security across the region.
According to a statement issued by the SADC Secretariat, the five-day session, chaired by Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, will review the progress on decisions from previous MCO gatherings and assess current political developments within the region.
The meeting will also focus on deepening democratic governance and strengthening institutional frameworks among SADC member states.
The ministerial session will start with a two-day meeting of senior officials, led by Samwel Shelukindo, permanent secretary of Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, according to the statement.
The SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Cooperation emphasizes that peace, security, and robust political relations remain crucial pillars for regional integration and cooperation.
SADC is a 16-member southern African regional bloc, established to promote sustainable and equitable economic growth and socioeconomic development. (Xinhua)
