GOBABIS, Sept. 11 – Former Constituency Councillor of Epukiro, Ruth Kaukuata Mbura, was unanimously elected as the new Regional Coordinator of Swapo Party in Omaheke region after incumbent coordinator Kejamuina Mungendje walked out of the extra- ordinary conference in protest to political leaders assigned to the eastern region.
Last month, politburo nullified the region’s Conference elections in favour of Mungendje who complained foul and today the Conference was held at the women centre in the town of Gobabis. The same results emerged as the majority went for women empowerment and threw their weight behind a lady that many regard as politically mature and experienced.
Former Secretary of Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) in the region Eben Handura became the second youth after Laina Shapange to graduate from SPYL to the top regional structures of the party.
He was also endorsed uncontested for the information and mobilization position, while his supposed challenger Bianca van Wyk could not obtain any nomination and was a notable absentee. Shapange was recently elected for information mobilization in Erongo region, after graduating from the SPYL ranks.
Since the top two positions were uncontested, the conference decided to complete the regional treasure position by acclamation of endorsing senior party member in Hiskia Elliot to complete the elections of people known as top three (3) of the region, while the conference also elected delegates and candidates to November Swapo congress. – Robert Maseka
