REHOBOTH, 22 JUL – Outjo Football Academy (OFA) were on Saturday crowned champions of the Kunene Second Division Football League with three games to spare, after they collected a point against PUBS Football Club.
OFA needed only a point from four matches to be confirmed winners of the league.
However in a match played on Saturday at the Etoshapoort Stadium in Outjo, PUBS had other ideas and wanted to put the celebrations of OFA on ice by matching them in every department before taking a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Clive ||Areseb’s 40th-minute strike. ||Areseb picked up the ball in the middle of the park and dribbled past three OFA defenders, playing a one-two with a teammate before chipping the ball past the OFA goalkeeper.
PUBS held on to go into the break leading with a solitary goal.
In the second half, both teams attacked at will, but OFA upped the tempo and scored the equaliser through Question Remember Hawaeb in the 70th minute.
Sensing a draw, OFA sustained the pressure and held on for a 1-1 draw that made them champions of the Kunene Second Division.
In other matches played on Saturday, Young Eagles hammered Robber Chanties 6-1 in a match played at Okaukuejo Stadium, while Bethlehem Boys defeated Green Dangers 4-1 at Outjo. In another match at the same venue, Sixty Eleven and Kunene Namibian Police FC played out a 1-1 draw.
