16 July, The Namibia Training Authority (NTA) is gearing up to host the 3rd National Skills Competition in September. This highly anticipated event will take place at the Ongwediva Trade Fair from September 25th to 30th, 2023.
An interesting development is that the NTA and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) have created a Service Level Agreement to guarantee thorough coverage of the skills competition across all of the broadcaster’s platforms. The communication specialist Jethro Kwenani emphasized that this tournament is a warm-up for the Global World Skills competition that would take place in France the following year. As participants demonstrate their proficiency in various skill sets, the emphasis will be on technical and vocational skills.
Tobias Nambala, the head of TVET regulations and the chair of the Steering Committee of the National Skills Competition, explained the two key components of the event. He stated, “Through its technical and vocational careers exhibition component, we aim to collaborate with reputable training institutions to introduce Namibian learners and youth to a diverse range of technical and vocational career options. In addition, the international technical and vocational training conference component aims to facilitate engagement between academia and industry leaders to strengthen our technical and vocational sector.”
Both the NTA and NBC are aware of the importance of their collaboration, especially in eradicating preconceived notions about jobs requiring technical and vocational abilities. The popular Live Your Passion show on the national broadcaster and earlier skills competitions have both been instrumental in shattering these prejudices.
Director General of NBC Stanley Similo thinks that by continuing to cover the skills competition, more businesses will become involved in the sector of vocational and technical skills. The cooperation hopes to inspire businesses to promote their brands in support of the advancement of technical and vocational skills by expanding its audience.
With Ongwediva as the host, the 3rd National Skills Competition promises to be a remarkable event that celebrates and recognizes the talent and dedication of Namibia’s skilled workforce.
