Ausiku implores for hostels in Nkurenkuru and Katjinakatji

RUNDU, 19 Mar. – Kavango West Governor, Sirkka Ausiku has requested the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture to consider building two secondary schools with fully-fledged hostels to cater for the escalating population of the region.

In an interview with Nampa recently, Ausiku said the ministry needs to consider constructing one hostel in Nkurenkuru, located 140 kilometres west of Rundu, and another at Katjinakatji, a village situated about 90 kilometres south of Rundu.

“Currently there is no secondary school in Nkurenkuru, apart from the privately owned ELCIN Church Nkurenkuru High School, which most parents cannot afford, and it can also not accommodate all learners in and around Nkurenkuru,” said Ausiku.

She said considering the geographical setup of the region, all schools that go up to Grade 10 situated along the Trans-Caprivi Highway are compelled to send their learners that make it to Grade 11 to Katjinakatji Senior Secondary School (KSSS), since it is the only school with Grade 11 and 12 that side of the region.

Therefore, Ausiku said, building a hostel at KSSS should be made a priority to accommodate learners coming from combined schools such as Mangetti, Mururani, Ncamagoro and Ncagcu.
Ausiku further said that a hostel seems to be needed at the Baevel Primary School at Bravo village to cater for the marginalised community there, made up predominantly of San people. – NAMPA
