ONGWEDIVA, 20 SEP – The Ongwediva Town Council is expected to start its indoor malaria spray campaign at the town on Monday.
According to a media statement issued on Wednesday by the office of the town’s chief executive officer, the spraying campaign will be carried out under the Malaria Control Programme.
“Town Council officials will be visible in various parts of the town as the Malaria Vectors Control Programme intensifies with indoor residual spray,” reads the statement.
The programme will focus on areas with malaria cases as confirmed by the Ministry of Health and Social Services.
Occupants of the affected residences are asked to remain outside of the structures for 15-30 minutes after the application of the chemical.
The spray will be performed inside the houses, especially in bedrooms to ensure total protection from mosquito bites.
The town’s Extension 11, with three confirmed cases and New Reception, with two confirmed cases, are the areas where the indoor residual spraying will be conducted, while other areas in town will be reached only for mitigation purposes.
The statement pointed out that a team responsible for spraying will be identifiable with green overalls and will be using council vehicles.
Residents of the town are requested to render necessary support to the officials who will be conducting the spraying exercise, especially by making sure that there are people at home.
