Windhoek, July 23 — As part of ensuring road infrastructure development in the country, Minister of Works and Transport John Mutorwa officially kicked off the construction commenced of the much-awaited Onamafila road on Thursday.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of the upgrading works on the Onamafila road in the Ohangwena region, Mutorwa said access to road infrastructure is essential to Namibia’s development.
The Onamafila road will be constructed by Nexus Construction Company at a cost of about N$ 11 million, and it is expected to be completed in six months.
A total of 15 local residents have been employed for the construction.
“The difficulties of accessing needed services due to bad road networks should be a thing of the past for rural communities,” Mutorwa said.
He said every Namibian has the right to demand services which are much needed in their area.
Road Authority chief executive officer Conrad Lutombi said the need for road infrastructure arises from the fact that there is a greater need for accessibility and smooth movement of people, goods and services, especially in rural areas.
Lutombi said it is imperative for RA to continue improving and expanding the national road network, more so in rural areas where most of the vulnerable members of the society live.
