UNITED NATIONS, June 4 — The president of the United Nations Security Council on Monday stressed the vital importance of multilateralism and called on the international community to abide by this fundamental principle of the UN.
“We strongly believe that noble goals can only be achieved through multilateralism,” Kuwaiti permanent representative to the UN and president of Security Council for June, Mansour Al-Otaibi, told reporters at a press conference at the UN headquarters in New York.
“This is our principled position,” he said, noting that this position is vitally important for “the strong cooperation and coordination between states as global problems require global solutions.”
“We are very committed to multilateralism as it is a central pillar of Kuwait,” said Al-Otaibi.
Al-Otaibi made these remarks while briefing reporters about the Security Council’s program of work for June.
Kuwait, which took over the Security Council presidency from Indonesia, is holding its third Council presidency this month. It previously held Council presidency during February 2018 and February 1978 respectively. – XINHUA
