ABUJA, Sept. 5 — At least 13 suspected Boko Haram militants were killed by Nigerian troops who foiled an ambush and improvised explosive device attack on a military convoy in the northeastern state of Borno, local media reported Friday.
The troops were escorting humanitarian aid trucks along the Gubio-Damasak road in Mobbar Local Government Area on Wednesday when the militants struck, detonating two explosives and opening fire on the convoy, according to Vanguard, a national daily newspaper.
Citing an unnamed military source, the report said the soldiers responded swiftly, “overwhelming them with superior firepower” and killing at least 13 assailants, while others escaped.

One soldier reportedly sustained a minor injury during the clash, while two military vehicles were damaged. The Nigerian troops also recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosive devices from the scene, according to the report. (Xinhua)
