NFVI memebrs urged to elect leaders with integrity

SWAKOPMUND, 26 NOV – Vice President Nangolo Mbumba has urged delegates of the Namibia Federation of the Visually Impaired (NFVI) to elect people with integrity, conviction and a passion to bring change within the federation.

Mbumba, who is also the patron of the NFVI, made these remarks during the official opening of the federation’s National Congress, in a speech delivered on his behalf here on Monday.

“Voting should be about who best personifies the ideals and aspirations of the federation and are capable of efficiently and effectively implementing developmental programs and projects for the federation to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of its members,” Mbumba stressed.

The VP also advised the members of the federation, without tiring, stand up for their rights and ensure that society will continuously respect and uphold such rights.

The aim of the congress is to take stock of what the federation has achieved thus far and also to propose proactive remedial measures to address shortcomings and challenges affecting the federation.
NFVI National Executive Director, Moses Nghipandulwa at the same event also stated that the congress is aimed for members to elect the new national executive board for the federation, as well as the new board members for the women and youth leagues.

“We will also be reviewing and developing its four year strategic plan soon after the congress, followed by a leadership training session,” he added.

The congress which is expected to go on until Wednesday is attended by close to 85 members, out of which 65 are from five regional associations of the federation.
It is also attended by international delegates from the Swedish Association of the Visually Impaired as well as the African Union of the Blind, based in Kenya.
The office of the VP also awarded some members of the NFVI with certificates of appreciation. – NAMPA
