WINDHOEK, Oct. 5 — On Saturday, February 25, 2023, Nedbank Namibia unveiled its revamped fundraising golf series, now known as the “Nedbank for Good Series.” Previously responsible for raising N$656,000 in support of the Autism Society of Namibia, this golf series is expanding its scope to benefit a broader range of institutions, initiatives, and projects that serve various social causes across the country.
Biniam Ghirmatsion, Executive for Wealth Management and Bancassurance at Nedbank Namibia expressed the bank’s commitment to uplifting communities and leaving a legacy of goodwill. He emphasized the potential for this initiative to have a lasting impact on the communities it serves.
While the primary focus of the series remains on golf and hosting exceptional events at various golf courses across the country, Ghirmatsion underscored that the true beneficiaries are those who receive the funds generated through the generosity of the golfing community. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the aspirations of Nedbank Private Wealth clients.
One of the inaugural beneficiaries of the Nedbank for Good Series is the Rössing Foundation’s Mobile Laboratory for Science and Mathematics. The foundation’s mission is to support English, mathematics, and science education for students in remote areas. The funds raised through this year’s golf series will be used to replenish laboratory equipment, specialized tools, and chemicals. This investment holds immense value in enhancing educational opportunities, especially for students facing challenges in meeting tertiary education admission requirements.
Uparura Kuvare, Executive Director of the Rössing Foundation, commended corporate entities for their commitment to improving Namibian children’s education. The Mobile Laboratory has already reached 62 schools and over 30,000 students, with plans to expand its impact to rural schools, where educational facilities, especially science laboratories, are limited.
The Nedbank for Good Series, characterized by its dedication to giving back to Namibian communities while promoting the game of golf, is also introducing a women’s section to the series this year. Dan Zwiebel, owner of DZ Golf and the organizing partner of the series, emphasized the importance of empowering more members of society through increased access to educational resources.
While a significant portion of the funds raised will support the Rössing Foundation, participating golf clubs can request financial assistance for charitable causes in their communities. Ghirmatsion highlighted the intention to be a prominent supporter of golf in Namibia, with multiple events planned across the country.
In conclusion, the Nedbank for Good Series exemplifies collaboration among corporate entities to make a meaningful impact on the lives of Namibian children and contribute to national development aspirations. The 10-part series will host golf days on various dates, culminating in the final event at the Omeya Golf Club on Friday, October 6, 2023. The series is co-sponsored by several partners, emphasizing the power of collaboration in community development.
