WINDHOEK, July 13 — Namibia and South Africa have officially re-opened the Onseepkans, Rietfontein, and Sendelingsdrift border posts as of July 10, said Etienne Maritz, the executive director of Namibia’s Home Affairs Ministry, Wednesday.
Of the three border posts, the Sendelingsdrift post remains closed due to water levels at the Orange River, Maritz said in a statement.
The border posts have been closed since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in reduced trade and significant socioeconomic hardships in both countries.
“The opening of the borders is guided by the relaxation of health protocols governing the management of COVID-19 in South Africa. Travellers are expected to respect the regulations and laws applicable in the respective countries, as well as to continue to observe COVID-19 protocols,” concluded Maritz. (Xinhua)
