Lilongwe, August 09 – MultiChoice Africa Holdings B.V (MAH) has announced the immediate termination of DStv services in Malawi. The decision follows an injunction from the High Court in Lilongwe that prohibited MultiChoice Malawi (MCM) from altering DStv pricing.
The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) was informed by MCM that it lacks jurisdiction to determine DStv pricing, a stance supported by MAH. Non-compliance with the court order could lead to severe consequences for MultiChoice Malawi’s directors and staff, including potential jail time. Faced with a challenging regulatory landscape and the precarious position of their provider, MAH had no alternative but to permanently discontinue DStv services.
Effective immediately, customers are advised to cease payments for the DStv service. Those who have already paid new membership fees will have access until their current 30-day viewing cycle concludes on or before September 10, 2023. However, no new memberships or reconnections will be permitted after Wednesday, August 9, 2023.- Namibia Daily News
