WINDHOEK, 12 OCT – Monthly inflation rate rose to 0,8 per cent in September 2018 from 0,03 per cent the previous month, the latest Namibia Consumer Price Index (NCPI) released by the Namibia Statistics Agency shows.
According to the NCPI, the inflation rate for transport increased to 3,7 per cent in September, compared to 0,8 per cent a month earlier.
The rise was seen in public transport due to a significant increase in the annual and monthly inflation rates for taxi transportation fares increased to 21,2 per cent.
The last taxi fare increase was affected in March 2015, when the annual inflation rate stood at 10,6 per cent.
The monthly inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages also increased from -0,1 per cent to 0,3 per cent.
Price levels of alcoholic beverages also increased in September, from 5,1 per cent to 6,3 per cent, while the monthly inflation rate stood at 0,8 per cent compared to -0,3 per cent in August 2018.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels recorded a slowdown from 0,1 per cent in August to 0,0 per cent last month.
