MET launches KAZA TFCA promo video

WINDHOEK, 23 Apr – The Ministry of Environment and Tourism on Monday launched a promotional video of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA) Excellency Tour.
Situated in the Kavango and Zambezi river basins, KAZA TFCA is the largest transfrontier conservation area in the world and is a development initiative between the governments of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe with the support of the United Nations Development Programme.
Speaking at the launch in Windhoek, Minister of Environment and Tourism, Pohamba Shifeta said KAZA TFCA aims to promote partnership tourism across the borders where the five countries converge.
Shifeta explained that for tourism, being one of the major contributors of the national economies, there is a need to devise new policies to promote diplomatic tourism, which supports conservation efforts in all the countries.
He noted that the biological resources of the KAZA TFCA incorporate the largest contiguous elephant population in Africa, and the area is endowed with an abundance diversity of wildlife species that are of considerable economic and ecological value.
“The KAZA TFCA is inhabited by human populations who keep herds of domestic stock, so it is imperative that any programme to promote the conservation of biodiversity must sustain and have a positive impact on the living standard of these rural communities,” said the minister.
Shifeta said the video will be aired on the five countries’ national airlines, various media and marketing platforms and in embassies.
At the same occasion, High Commissioner of Botswana to Namibia, Claurinah Tshenolo Modise said the tour will contribute to reducing poverty, promoting environmental conservation and prosperity in line with the global Sustainable Development Goals.
“The tour is so much more than just an exciting memorable experience, it will also contribute to create opportunities in marginalised areas in southern Africa,” she said.
The five-day tour will start at Popa Falls in Namibia and continue to Chobe Marina in Botswana, followed by Victoria Falls in Zambia and Elephant Hills in Zimbabwe.
The total cost of the tour is N.dollars 27 908, including all leisure activities, food, accommodation and transport per person.
