EENHANA, 14 OCT – Swapo Party politburo member and Vice-President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba has called on members of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) to come up with solutions to challenges facing young people in the country.
Officially opening the SPYL central committee meeting at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday, Mbumba said the leadership of the party should make sound headway in addressing the overall income inequality, unemployment and poverty affecting Namibians.
“On that note, we need to stimulate and promote the spirit of entrepreneurship, engage in skills development and participate in research and innovation in order to attain our national development objectives,” Mbumba told the SPYL members.
Regarding the resolutions passed at the just-ended second National Land Conference for immediate implementation, Mbumba said the youth are further called upon to play their part in finding solutions toward the implementation of the conference’s resolutions.
He also told the youth to uphold, protect, cherish and live by cultural norms and values to protect mothers and children from societal harm.
“Let us denounce and uproot gender-based violence from the face of this country,” he urged and suggested that the youth respect, cherish and look after the elders, as they would want to be looked after in their old age by their respective children.
Mbumba outlined, amongst others, the Swapo Party constitution, rules and procedures, guidelines and internal procedures as important documents to be understood by the youth leaders, because they serve as the bloodline on which the party foundation is built and on which it operates.
“We need to uphold our party ideology, with its rules and procedures to ensure cohesiveness and to protect our party from being brought into disrepute, confusion and even chaos,” he suggested.
Speaking at the same occasion, SPYL secretary, Ephraim Nekongo pointed out that SPYL leaders under him came to the helm at a time when the world is faced with economic recession, where there is a high demand of prosperity and social justice for all.
He also used the platform to express dissatisfaction with government ministries allegedly procuring goods and services from outside on the expense of Namibian goods and services.
Money that would have created employment or income in the country, Nekongo said, is being exported from the country by ignoring local goods and services just to procure foreign items.
“Our wish is to see people that are entrusted with the responsibilities delivering. The time is no longer with us – we should find solutions for our people,” he added.
The two-day SPYL central committee meeting ends on Sunday.
