Mariental, Oct. 25 – In early May this year Hendrina Mupulo died after farmer Johan Meyer in a Toyota Land Cruiser allegedly eventually ran over her with the vehicle.
She was in the company of her mother and several others harvesting crops in Meyer’s fields, prompting him to chase the group, an action which resulted in Hendrina’s death.
After the death of his daughter, Mupulo Eliya is still struggling to move on but his wounds have been opened.
“A police officer came to me and asked me to sign a document but I said needed to first consult my sister to read through it. Upon reading it I realised that things did not make sense and I sent the document to my lawyer who clearly advised me not to sign,” he said.
He further said he was offered a car and N$50 000 by police officers to sign documents allegedly withdrawing the case against Meyer.
“The police officer whose name I know and will not be afraid to mention should be removed from office. I am not afraid of him. I am a taxi driver and my God provides for me and my daughter is still and will be in my heart,” he said urging police officers to maintain the law and not engage in corruption.
Efforts to get a comment from the police were fruitless.
