REHOBOTH, 18 MAY – The Mariental Municipality is ready for its ‘Road to Rehoboth’ clean-up slated for Monday as part of the nationwide clean-up campaign.
The national clean-up takes place next Friday.
Chief Executive Officer of Mariental Municipality, Paul Nghiwilepo on Thursday said all logistics are in place for the clean-up on Monday.
“We held a meeting today (Thursday) where we identified the most critical areas. Our informal settlements will be our main priority areas as small illegal dumpsites are mushrooming there,” Nghiwilepo said.
The areas targeted are Oshiwana Penduka, Ombili, Takarania, |Khara Tsâsib, Genoeg is Genoeg, Aimablaagte, Sonop and the western and eastern sides of the town.
Nghiwilepo further said learners will also be involved in the campaign, but will concentrate on school premises.
The chief executive officer further said they will try and keep plastic and glass bottles, papers and all other recyclable items separate for recycling companies to collect.
“We will not be burning anything at the main dump site as this will cause pollution. We are in talks with recycling companies to come and collect what they need for their recycling programmes,” he said.
Nghiwilepo said all the needed equipment is in place.
The Hardap clean-up campaign, which is part of the national campaign, kicked off in Maltahöhe and has so far also covered Gibeon, Kriess, Gochas, Aranos and Stampriet. The clean-up at Hoachanas takes place on Friday, followed by Klein-Aub (Saturday), Mariental (Monday), Kalkrand (23 May) and Rehoboth (25 May).
