Omatjete, Sept. 2 — A 73-year-old man with a disability burned to death on Thursday evening around 23h30 at Okarui okapi village, Omatjete.
According to the Erongo police, Mathias Tjirimezumo lived alone in his zinc shack when it caught fire and he could not get out and sustained 90-degree burn wounds from which he died at the scene.
Police further reported that he had been using a homemade paraffin lamp which could have been the cause of the fire as they suspect that the lamp could have burst and the paraffin spread the fire.
The body will be taken to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for handling and no foul play is suspected.
His next of kin were informed of his death.
