LUANDA, July 16 — More than half of the Angolan population are not financially included, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) has said.
Only 47 percent of the country’s population are financially included, Edilson Pimenta, director of the BNA Financial Inclusion Department, said Tuesday, adding that the level in rural areas is much lower, at 15 percent.
The lack of identification documents for many citizens is a major reason, he said at an event Tuesday to promote the issuance of identity cards to farmers in Benguela Province.
Pimenta noted that only 29 percent of women have access to financial services, compared to 44 percent of men.
The BNA aims to ensure the sustainable use of accessible, useful, and secure financial services for all population segments, paying particular attention to the most vulnerable, he said.
Financial inclusion is the process of ensuring that individuals and businesses have access to useful and accessible financial services to promote equal opportunities, combat poverty, and encourage development. (Xinhua)
