WINDHOEK, SEPT. 15 – Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Veiko Nekundi has encouraged learners to strive to be their best and aim high in order to lay the foundation for their future.
Nekundi was speaking during a prize giving ceremony in Etayi in the Omusati Region when he said prize giving ceremonies reward achievers.
Said Nekundi:” Academic prize-giving ceremonies are something I too believe in. It opens up for good competition amongst peers, be it amongst learners, amongst teachers or amongst parents. It serves as an encouraging tool for learners to pay more attention in class, to study harder and to ensure that they obtain nothing but good grades in their school work. ”
Nekundi said learners had to take it upon themselves to acquire skills that can benefit them in future.
“I want to tell and remind you, that in education as a learner you can’t be a defender, neither a midfielder but a striker, and not just a striker because you play in front, but because you must score in each and every game. You must score from every angle, from every free-kick and from each penalty awarded. Therefore you must aim to achieve year in year out, be that footballer player of the year each year, and golden boot of the year each game.”
He said going to school to show off about about prestigious families does not necessarily translate into success.
“Going to school because there is a lot of work at home should not be the reason! Go to school because your future is only a future through education, and that education is through the classroom.”
