Kondjashili and Dumeni winners of Oshakati Old Mutual Victory Race

OSHAKATI, 29 JULY – The third leg of the 2018 Old Mutual Victory Race Series took place at Oshakati on Saturday, with Kefas Kondjashili and Josephine Dumeni emerging as the winners of the event’s 21-kilometre (km) race.
Kondjashili in the men’s category and Dumeni in the women’s category finished the race in a time of one hour, six minutes and 49 seconds (01:06:49) and 01:21:58, respectively.

In the men’s category, Paulus Iiyambo was in second place with a time of 01:06:57 and Paulus Daniel in third place with a time of 01:07:48.
In the women’s category, Beata Naigambo was in second place with a time of 01:22:48 and Shiivomwene Shilongo in third place with a time of 01:25:28.

In the tightly contested 10km men’s category where the winners crossed the line almost simultaneously, Asser Nalukaku was first followed by Simon Paulus in second and Reanard Namupala in third.
The winners in the women’s 10km contest were Victoria Kaliteka (first), Victoria Shapwa (second) and Rauna Eelu (third).

People with disabilities from the Oshana Heroes’ Sport Club and Eluwa Special School at Ongwediva also participated in the 5km race and the Oshana Heroes’ Sport Club’s wheelchair athletes received a new laptop for their club.

Nelago Manama, 57, from Eengwena in the Omusati Region’s Okalongo area was declared the event’s oldest participant, with a time of 02:44:42 in the 21km master category.
The first two legs of the 2018 Victory Race Series were held in Swakopmund on 16 June and in Keetmanshoop on 07 July.

The remaining and final leg, which is expected to take place in Windhoek on 18 August, will see the first three runners in the men’s and women’s 21km category crowned with N$15 000, N$10 000 and N$5 000, respectively.
“The club with the most participants gets N$2 500 and the disability group with the most participants gets a laptop to assist with their administration,” Old Mutual Communications Practitioner Shekutaamba Nepembe said in a media statement issued on Sunday.
Old Mutual is sponsoring the Victory Race Series for the 18th consecutive year.
