WINDHOEK, 13 MAY – Khomas were crowned 2018 National Youth Games netball champions after sailing past Kavango East in the final Saturday afternoon at the United Trusco netball courts in Olympia.
Both finalists finished their group and semifinal games without a loss.
In the final, Khomas came out firing on all cylinders, dominating the 2018 The Namibian Newspaper Cup netball champions.
The hosts led all four quarters (11-6; 21-16; 32-22 and 43-33), increasing their lead from six to 10 points in the third quarter.
Kavango East looked fatigued as the game dragged on and offered little to close the gap.
However, Kavango East looked a little stronger in the third quarter when they had more ball possession but missed crucial scoring opportunities when their goal attack and goal scorer found it hard to find the centre of the hoop.
Over 1 800 athletes participated in football, athletics, basketball, boxing, judo, netball, swimming, tennis and volleyball at this year’s edition of the NYG the games which was used to select national under-20 teams that will represent the country at the 2018 Region Five Games in Botswana in December.
