WINDHOEK, FEB 10 – SWAPO Party Youth League members in the //Kharas region were yesterday urged to focus on advocating and bringing about economic development by former SPYL Secretary, Veikko Nekundi.
Nekundi – also Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises – was speaking at the opening of the SPYL //Kharas Regional Executive Committee Meeting, where he implored cadres to step-up in the fight against poverty in order to foster development.
“Remember as SPYL, your duty is not only politics but we expect you to bring about progressive changes for the society and region you are deployed to serve,
in this case //Kharas region. You are expected to device strategies that will bring about the defeat of poverty and strategies that will bring about economic prosperity for all.”
The SWAPO Party Central Community Member added that it would be shameful if those at the helm relinquished their leadership positions while poverty and mild economic development in the region remained prevalent after their terms.
Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises Veikko Nekundi addresses //Kharas SPYL members during the opening of the REC
Cadres were also encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and hunt economic opportunities that benefit the populace.
“Go out there and hunt all the economic opportunities to the benefit of our people. Go out there and ensure that the delivery of prosperity is attained before your term comes to an end. You are the ultimate engineers of success, you are the pillars of economic prosperity and the ammunitions to defeat poverty,” said Nekundi.
However, Nekundi claimed that excessive sloganeering and politics centered around the fist were far from being catalysts of progress, although he acknowledged sloganeering as a cheering, motivating and bonding factor necessary in the march toward defeating poverty.

“Comrade leaders, I will not shy away to tell you politics of the fists and sloganeering is defeating the purpose of our revolution; it simply does not bring economic development, it does not defeat hunger and poverty and it does not bring prosperity. I therefore minimize sloganeering and deliver on strategic balances of development.”
Nekundi called on his fellow members to embrace unity as a pillar of success, and to do away with rumour mongering.
He said: “I implore you to work as a team, your team dynamism efforts should be directed toward the betterment of our people. Leave your frustrations at
home, don’t bring that to the space that will render the Party work backward. I need your synergy, the Party need your synergy, as individuals you need synergy, as a collective you need synergy and as a wing you need synergy. Cadres, leave gossips in your rooms, lock up all the rumors- they are simply anti-unity and progress. Simply don’t be a rumor manufacturer neither a rumor transporter!!”
