WINDHOEK, 07 OCT – Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader, McHenry Venaani has said he hopes local journalists will emulate the late Desiewaar ‘Desie’ Heita’s fair and balanced reporting.
The leader of the official opposition party said this in a statement availed to the media yesterday, when he conveyed his party’s condolences to the family and friends of Heita, who died in Windhoek this week.
Heita was an associate editor and economics journalist at New Era. He died at his home in Klein Windhoek, where a gate fell on him on Wednesday night.
Venaani said the Namibian nation is poorer without Heita.
“The PDM will always remember Heita for his ever inquisitive and ethical reportage that he embodied all the time,” Venaani said.
The party leader added that he always chose to listen to different views to further add to his knowledge and understanding.
“It is our hope that more journalists in the country will emulate Heita’s fair and balanced reporting to further educate and enlighten the nation of the good and bad without fear or favour,” said Venaani.
He said PDM will miss his several phone calls to its members and offices, inquiring about various goings on at the party, as well as other related issues.
