NKURENKURU, NOV. 15 – After flooring and breaking a parent’s jaw earlier in June this year, a “short-tempered” principal has been ordered to pay restitution of six cows to his victim.
Sadie Ihemba (42), the principal of Shatotwa primary school in Mankumpi Constituency of Kavango West, knocked down parent Bonny Kameya, subsequently breaking his jaws.
In Ihemba’s absence during a parent meeting, Kameya’s complaints of poor school performance coupled with accusing Ihemba of “regular travelings” sealed his fate, and little did Kameya know that his days of chewing meat were numbered.
But when Ihemba was briefed by his fellow teacher that parent Kameya had “badmouthed and accused him of unnecessary travelings,” this lit a powder-keg, resulting in Ihemba relentlessly hunting the parent around the village.
Kameya’s luck ran out when he was located by Ihemba at a Cuca shop, where his predator floored him unconscious with a hook which synonymously broke his jaw.
After seeking medical attention, Kameya took the matter to Ukwangali Traditional Authority.
Last week, a traditional hearing was conducted by a senior Councillor Hawanga who found principal Ihemba guilty, sentenced him to pay four cattle to his victim Kameya, and two cattle to Ukwangali Traditional Authority.
Contacted for comment on the judgement, Kameya complained that the cattle were few and unfitting the crime committed due to the injuries he had sustained.
“I still have to go to Windhoek for a medical follow up since I’m not (fully) healed, and for the rest of my life I will be disabled,” he told this reporter via telephone.
According to those who attended the hearing, the Authority maintained that the principal was the first offender. The principal and Traditional Authority however could not be reached for comment. – firstname.lastname@example.org
